Laundromat

Laundromat is one of the main services that HQ Laundry offers.

Laundromat is the type of laundry service where you use the shop’s washing machines and/or dryers and pay for using the machines and laundry products used, such as washing powder and fabric softener.

Whether you’re used to using this type of service, or it’s something new to you, we’ll make this experience easier for you. We always have a friendly staff member around to assist you, if necessary. So any questions feel free to ask us.

Why use a laundromat?

There are different reasons for why someone would use a laundromat. Some people might not have a washing machine at home and they need to get their laundry done. Other people might be dealing with a broken machine awaiting repair or replacement and temporarily need a place to wash and/or dry their clothes.

HQ Laundry DryerIt might also happen that a household does not have a dryer and the rainy weather makes it difficult to dry the clothes. Others might be traveling and need the ability to do their laundry, especially the campervan community, as we are not far off the Freeway for a pit stop.

Some may fall behind with laundry and need to do multiple loads to catch up & get back their time or need larger machines that what they have at home, especially when washing big or bulky items like doonas, curtains and even teddy bears!

The truth is that different people will have different reasons for why they use laundromats. Nonetheless, HQ Laundry is open seven days a week (except on public holidays) and we can always accommodate your demand. Please see here our trading hours.

  • At HQ Laundry you can use only our washing machines, or only our dryers, or both. You can use one washing machine/dryer at a time or more than one – as long as our other machines are not being used by other customers – it is your choice of how many machines at a time you want to use.
  • We have easy to follow printed instructions on each machine.
  • Laundromat without coins! In our shop you do not need to worry about getting coins to use our machines. You use all the equipment you need and pay for each machine by a card or tap to pay device.
  • We have large commercial size machines available for laundromat – our commercial & industrial grade front load washers can take 9kg, 14kg & 18kg loads and our commercial gas dryers can take up to 14kg & 22kg loads.
  • We have ample parking onsite which makes it easier to carry your loads of washing from and to the car.
  • We take care of cleaning the machines and maintaining them, one less thing for you to worry about.

Please note HQ Laundry is not responsible for self-service laundry. We ask our customers to carefully follow instructions when operating and paying the machines.

We do ask our customers to be close by to promptly take out their laundry from the machines when the cycles are finished so others may use the machine. Lost property will be placed in a basket under the folding table.

We are looking to partner with a local coffee vendor to provide coffees on site whilst you wait for your loads.

Did you know?

The concept of laundromat was created in Texas in the 1930s. Back then, the washing machines were available for use based on an hourly rate. In the 1960s, laundromats gained popularity and the coin operated machines started being used.

The laundromats were originally called washaterias. Throughout the years other names have been used to refer to this type of self-served laundry, such as laundry mat, laundrette, launderette, washette, wash and dry, self-service laundry, coin laundry, coin wash and of course, laundromat. The latter is considered the correct term and it originated from the combination of the words “laundry” and “automat”.
